What are KUMIHIMO do you know?

--It may be concern from Japanese Kimono parts. Indeed, KUMIHIMO is one of a technique to braid silk strings (or cotton strings).

It came from the Asian landmass as an ornament with Buddhist objects in past times.

Then it spread as an ornaments of sword, or tea objects.

Now it is the most popular as Obijime. Obijime is a part of women’s kimono.

Our designer, Yasusi Nakajima invented the original technique to braid the silk and the metal based on KUMIHIMO.

Bland name,YAT means [finally I did it!=yatto dekita!]in Japanese.

It is so comfortable to fit by braiding with the silk and the metals.

That’ why the flexibility of silk and the elastic force of metal mixed.

YAT’s accessories are only for you to braid your soul.

「組み紐」と聞いて思い浮かべるもの――

それはきっと着物関連のものではないでしょうか。それもそのはず、組み紐は古来より日本に伝わる「絹糸や綿糸を編んで織り上げた紐」の技術のことです。

古くは仏具を飾る物として伝来し、以後、武具や茶道具の一部としても用いられてきましたが、今では着物の帯締めとしてが一番ポピュラーです。

この組み紐をベースに、デザイナーの中島靖司は3年以上もの歳月をかけて、絹糸と金属を一緒に編む独自の技法を生み出しました。

ブランド名YATには「やっとできた」という、デザイナーの試行錯誤の証が刻まれています。

絹のしなやかさと金属ワイヤーのコシが織りなす、唯一無二の世界観。

日本古来の伝統と現代技術を融合させた技術で作る、世界に一つだけの、あなたの「想い」を編み込んだアクセサリーです。

PROFILE

1994 Entered Hiko MIzuno College of Jewelry.
1996 Received the award of PDY(Platinum Design of the year).
1996 Graduated from the College.
After graduated, worked for as a designer of a jewelry company that accept full design order only.

Then quit that company, started to work as a freelance jewelry designer.

When I was a child, I spent a lot of time abroad, so I had special mind about Japanese culture, especially kimono one.
The motif of PDY was also Japanese sword.
Kimono and Japanese sword have common characteristic. Both uses Kumihimo as a material.
For this reason, Around 2012~ Got interested in Kumihimo.
So asked a few artisan to carry on the torch.
Until 2014 acquired a lot of method.
Since then created original Kumihimo method.
2015 established YAT and improve Now
